Hello!?

Ok, I hope I have finally figured this blog out! I never knew I was this bad with computers, but trying to figure out how to post on the blog has proven to be pretty difficult for me!! I am a senior occupational science/occupational therapy major and just recently declared a minor in special education. I decided on a minor in special ed. because I think it will make me a more knowledgeable and well-rounded OT, when I eventually graduate with my masters which will be in approx. three more years. Eventually, I want to work with children with autism and currently volunteer with Central Kentucky Riding for Hope as well as Cincinnati Children's Hospital OT department. So far, I have enjoyed the special education classes I am taking this semester, which also include behavior disorders and behavior management. They are by far more interesting than most of the occupational science and anatomy classes we have! I am looking forward to this spring semester and am excited to gain a better understanding of education's views and perspectives on development!

I appreciate your diligence! I am glad you experienced success and were able to post. Learning new tasks and struggling certainly can help us understand better how so many children feel daily when they are attempting to accomplish routine tasks in classes at school.

Mrs. White,
I thought your email back to me regarding my struggle with posting a blog was very insightful. Typically, I am a strong student and when I became confused with the blog postings, my frustration held me back from looking at the process clearly. It was almost like an "ah ha" moment where I realized that children w ith disorders, whether is be speech, behavioral, etc. have to deal with these feelings of frustration daily. It really brought me a better understanding of what it's like for our students or clients, which is exactly why I have decided to declare a special ed minor.

Rachel, I'll never forget when I was first trying to learn how to use computers. It was in the days of DOS and the black screen. Everything started at C:/ where you typed a command. Oh my word! You talk about frustrated!!! As a friend worked with me to try and help me understand and I had not real background knowledge with which to connect the new information I really struggled. It truly gave me a WHOLE NEW PERSPECTIVE on learning for children.
