Language and communication is at the heart of society. Learning how to use language to communicate wants and have needs met can be a complex task for many children. Our course will explore how language develops and the intricate challenges many children face who experience a variety of physical, emotional and cognitive difficulties.

I appreciate you recognizing that! Remember I am modeling for YOU what I believe is BEST PRACTICE for instruction. Students learn more effectively when the feedback is immediate (this is as immediate as I can be at this point) and is specific. There are other factors related to providing feedback to students that you will learn as you continue through your education classes.
I want to echo this thank you for the feedback. I cannot tell you how many times I have taken tests and done something wrong but had teachers not take the time to explain what I did. Therefore, I never learned the material! So thank you for taking the time Mrs. White. It was really appreciated!
I also want to say thank you to Mrs. White for givng feedback on the exams. It allows me to better the content on the exams.
I would also like to thank Mrs. White for her understanding of the frustration associated with the testing process. Not many of my other professors understand my stress level at times and it was nice to be reassured that if something is stressing me out, that I can have time to step away and figure things out before moving on. I know I don't produce my best work under stress, let alone demonstrate my knowledge of a subject to the best of my ability, so a no-pressure testing situation lets me do my best.
I agree with all of the above posts. It was good to have an idea of how I could have better answered the questions/applied the information. The test made me think, think, think. The feedback made me think a little more!
I too owuld like to jump on this band wagon-- it seems to be universal. We like feedback from our tests.. Truthfully it's the best way to learn I think, thorugh our mistakes and misunderstandings. In class I know if I don't know an answer I will sit back and wait, but on a test you have to kinda guess and feel out the question. so, it's good to know how close you were to what the teacher was looking for.
As everyone else has said i appreciate you taking your time to give each and every student feedback. I have never had a teacher that takes the time to give feedback for each student which is so help full in the long run so we know what we did right and what we need to review a little more. For most classes once I take the test I never have to look back to the information, however since this is my major I appreciate the feedback since I will need to know this information inside and out. I think your a wonderful teacher and just want the best for use and i hope some day i will be just as good as a teacher and will be able to follow your foot steps!!!
THANKS AGIAN!
Please remember the positive things you feel are of BENEFIT to you when I make the ton of mistakes as well as do things that aggrevate or frustrate you. Each of us have positives as well as attributes our students must "tolerate."
I do strive to improve my teaching from week to week and semester to semester. My goal is to be a life long learner and to continually help each of you become even better teachers than I ever was. I look forward to the day you become my colleagues!
This morning I just read my post above. THAT, my friends, is an example of an UNEDITED, horrifically written post. The SYNTAX is AWFUL.
I'd like to say I did that as a NON-example of how a professional should write!
I can't remember having any teachers in the past that put that much time into grading our test. I really think that helps us more that way because it allows us to see exactly what your looking for in our answers on the test. Thank you for taking the extra time Mrs. White.
We will talk about this in class - as we talk about ASSESSMENTS. What is the PURPOSE of an assessment. Certainly to an extent assessments are different based on the educator giving them and to that end a student needs to know "how the assessment will be evaluated."
In this class I truly want each activity, project and test to be OPPORTUNITIES for you to DEMONSTRATE what you KNOW, UNDERSTAND and are ABLE TO DO. It isn't FIGURING OUT WHAT I WANT. The assessment isn't of what you can figure out about me and how I grade. I try to be very clear and up front about that in the beginning.
With activities, observations, projects, etc. I give rubrics, scoring guides or look fors. This lets you know HOW you will be evaluated. Your task is to access information, comprehend it, synthesize it and then APPLY it. At times you will be asked to evaluate.
Therefore, my feedback is geared towards helping YOU think more carefully about what the question was asking or how in my understanding of your answer I did NOT see an accurate demonstration of accurate material.
If I do not "intervene" and redirect you how will you reconsider the material in such a way that you will LEARN it for future USE in the classroom.
I TRULY hope (although I'm not so naive that I don't realize that it is a major part of it) that this is about more than just GRADES and how to jump through the hoop of my tests - - but how can you most effectively learn this information so that you can UNDERSTAND LANGUAGE in such a way that you can IMPACT THE LEARNING of children when they struggle.
Instead of saying, "Read it again. You will say, let's look at this differently. Let's rephrase this. Let's make a connection . . . " When the student begins to understand and it starts to click. . . you will realize how important syntax and semantics are and that you not only made a difference for the day...but for many days to come.
Trust me. You will.
I found the feedback you gave very helpful. Having you tell me excatly why I missed a few points is very helpful and I feel that with that feedback I will better understand the topic.
Heather...did you notice between you and some folks in Monday night you've coaxed me into adding a picture with my profile. I FINALLY figured out how to add a picture!
I want to go along with the trend and say thank you for the feedback on the test. It is SO nice to have a teacher who actually cares whether or not you understand what you are being taught.
